Membership to The Shooting Federation of Nova Scotia is open to all Nova Scotia organizations whose members participate in the shooting sports. Individual membership in the Federation is obtained by being a member of an affiliated club and 'stand alone' memberships for individuals are not offered.
The Shooting Federation of Nova Scotia provides the following services to Affiliated Clubs.
Safety is an important aspect of the shooting sports. The Federation conducts Range Safety Officer courses for member clubs. These courses are recognized by the Provincial Firearms Office.
Coaching is an important part of developing athletes in any sport. The Federation can arrange for members of clubs to take Coaching Association of Canada certified coaching courses. For more information visit Coaching in the Athlete Development section of the website
To support affiliated clubs the SFNS is able to provide development assistance and equipment in terms of air guns to clubs willing to grow their junior programs. Equipment kits can be tailored to your participants needs and we are able to provide clinics and guidance to help develop your shooters and coaches.
We also encourage and support junior programs at the local club level by subsidizing participation in the Shooting Federation of Canada Recreational Target Shooting (RTS) awards programs. If a Club is affiliated with the Shooting Federation of Nova Scotia and is registered with the RTS Program, the SFNS will reimburse the club for the costs of awards for junior shooters.
The Federation has a 'Club Grant Fund' which upon application by an affiliated club will provide funding towards club upgrades or for hosting an open competition. An open competition is an event in which participation is not restricted to members of a particular club. If a club requests and receive funding SFNS reserves the right to advise other clubs of the open event. Requests are considered in April of each year. Contact SFNS for information on how to apply.
As the Provincial Sport Organization we are able to secure grants for clubs hosting Canadian Championships.
The Shooting Federation also has a number of funding programs targeted toward individual club members.
It has a Bursary program to provide some financial assistance to club members agreeing to participate in our Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) program (see LTAD in Athlete Development section of the website). The Bursary grants can be made to individuals in all Target Shooting disciplines and used to fund expenses (coaching, competition fees, clinics etc.) the individual identifies as part of their training plan. Applications are solicited in the Spring of the year and awards made in May.
If a member of an affiliated club attends a National Shooting Championship in Canada or competes internationally as part of an official Canadian Team they are eligible for some travel assistance from SFNS. Clubs are requested to submit the names of their members who qualify in March of each year.
